la Semana Santa
Semana Santa or Holy week is the yearly commemoration of Christ's Passion, an event referring to the week of Jesus' crucifixion (execution) and resurrection (rebirth) in the Bible. Palm Sunday heralds the start of Holy Week. Filipino families would typically attend church dressed in their Sunday finest and bearing palm leaves for blessing. Normally, palm leaves are offered outside the church; merchants will follow you down and sell you one before you enter the church. During the Holy Mass, they hoist their palaspas or palm fronds into the air with other churchgoers as the priest sprinkles them with holy water.
After the service, people take theirpalaspas home and pin or fasten them to their doors or windows, or they place them on the altar.Blessed palm leaves are supposed to eliminate negativity and bring good fortune into a home. As a custom, Filipinos keep the palaspas pinned to the door or window for a year. Going to Church in the province always meant meeting a relative from the next town, so be ready to "mano" (put the elder's palm on your forehead) every Tita, Tito, Lola, and Lolo you see.
During Holy Week, I remained at home. I sleep, rest, and hang out with my dogs, cat, and family. I went to church on Palm Sunday and had a good time while listening to what the pastor said. While listening, I realized a lot, and I was once again amazed by God. His love for humans is so strong that he is willing to die to save us. He died saving us even though those people were cruel to him. And it was then that I realized that even when somebody treated us wrong, we should forgive them. and no matter what happens, we must believe God and his words..
“He is not here; He has risen!” – Luke 24:6-7
