I’M NOT JUST A WOMAN

International women month was a result of the organizing activities of women in the early 20th

Century. In Philippines, national women’s month is a highlight where women’s achievement and

discussion about women’s empowerment, gender equality issues, concerns and challenges, as

well as commitments. The celebration concentrates on practical initiatives that are in line with

laws and agreements at the local, national, and international levels, such as the Beijing Platform

for Action, the Philippine Plan for Gender-Responsive Development (1995-2025), the

Framework Plan for Women, and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of

Discrimination Against Women.

I believe that we should all be equal, whether you are a male, a female, or a member of

LGBTQA+. We all have the equal rights to do everything that we like, to express what we feel

and to become what we like to become. Not because you are a woman, you deserve to be at

home and do the house works, and just take care of your husband or your children, no. Every

woman has a right to do the works just like a man can do. A woman may not be physically

strong but I don’t think that we should base it to a women characteristics, nor what a woman

can do. We may not be physically strong, but we can work too. It’s not the strength that we are

talking about if we try to find a job, but the mentality of a person, the professionality of a person.

And I do believe that a man is not only for work. He has a freedom to do everything he like, if he

wants to just take care of his wife and children, why not? Why criticize them? that’s what they

like and we cannot do anything about it. Many people believes that a woman is only for house

chores while a man is the one who take in charge of working for the family, but for me, they can

do both. A man can be at home and do the house chores and a woman can work.

Same as in LGBTQA+, they also have the rights to express their feelings. We people is easy to

judge based on what they look like and what they are, that leads us to criticize them and

unintentionally prohibit their rights as a human. We should also open our minds and accept the

reality. We should accept them as a person. We should stop criticizing them, as they are a human

too. A human that has a feeling. We don’t know what and how they feel, and we should

understand and accept the truth.

You are not ‘just’ a woman, you are a woman. You are not ‘just’ a man, you are a man. You are

not ‘just’ a member of LGBTQA+, you have the rights to express what you feel. We all have the

equal rights.

STOP DISCRIMINATION, LET’S UNITE AS ONE.
